Ever since he returned she felt lost, there was an unstable grip on her emotions. Perhaps it was confusion. She wasn’t certain where to go from here. Before he came she had a clear goal in mind. Get all of the guns and souls she signed for and get her life back. Now he was here…she wasn’t sure if she wanted to leave again to do that, perhaps afraid when she returned he’d be gone again. Bella made her way up the stairs rubbing her arm lightly. “Thanks…” she muttered looking over her shoulder at him before disappearing into the living room.

“Don’t thank me. You did it all on your own.” All Crane did was give the subtle nudge.

“But you cleared my mind and pushed me to it.” She remarked. She felt it silly to ask because he did not eat, “What would you like for dinner?” But she found it kind to do so any way.

Crane waved his hand in dismissal. “I’m fine”

“Ah so your blaming This on people leaving you. ” He moved to sit on the steps that lead down to the lab. “Not everyone leaves of their own free will, its not something that can always be prevented.”

Bella’s face rose to meet his. He was right, but the others had left out of hate and fear. “…but everyone else left willingly…for other women…for fear…for what ever.” She said drying her tears with the back of her hand. Why was he being kind? Was it not disgraceful and disgusting to see her in such a manner?

Human emotion was not in any ways disgraceful or disgusting. It was to Crane at least ever fascinating. “Its apart of life. People leave, it does not mean that they wont come back”

It was not so. She knew the men she loved would not return. The words they said…no. Her hands covered her face lightly. He was the only one who came back, and it was more of just a coincidence, though he was staying wasn’t he. Rubbing her face vigorously she sniffled sucking down her emotions and looked at him with tired eyes. “Enough of this…I’m going to make dinner.”

Took her long enough to put the mental walls back up. Crane knew he had taught her better then that. Though sometimes, just acting a nuetral in the situation did more help then tearing down. It was delicate balance of things, it also played into his skills of manipulation.

His head cocked to the side. He must admit the man was pretty good at masking his emotions, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t sense them. He could practically taste all of man’s miseries. A smile split his lips slowly as the figure moved towards him. Before it got much further a band of demons reached forth from the Earth dragging her back down into the sweltering pits of hell. “You see, Jonathan. It’s all quite funny really. People spend their whole lives believing one thing…and they get the opposite of what they seek. Salvation becomes damnation. You humans can not resist the mortal sin. Your souls are far to weak.”

His eyes locked with Jonathan’s “And to a man who doesn’t believe in the soul…well.. I suppose I have a ‘trick’ for that as well.” A deep laugh rolled in his throat. “People scream…when the soul is torn from the body. You feel as if you are ripped in two…and you can never feel whole again til it is returned. They spend their whole lives scrambling at my feet to gain back what they signed away for greed, lust, or wrath.” His eyes shifted to the side, “Do you wonder what she sold hers for? Can you imagine the sounds of her screams?”

Crane was not hiding his emotions, the man was down right ignoring their existence. It was, what little he could do to keep himself sane. Well, partially. He lacked several key point in that fragile balance. It was not something he wished to dwell on. His own slipping sanity. He held his ground, no ounce of fear in him. Not that there was any to be given in the first place. “You display, like others, fanatical devotion to such a thing as your religion. ”

Crane rolled his blue and yellow eyes. “Eliciting screams are my specialty. I have heard them, you should try your tactics against those it would work on.”

“I wouldn’t call it a religion…more of the strongest one rules it all. Humans have used this through out history. A survival of the fittest.” He mused. As soon as the visages appeared they vanished leaving the two men alone.

“I was merely showing you a taste of my power, it wasn’t a challenge to a scare off.” Touching his fingers to the side of his temple he had a sudden bored gaze. This human was no fun. He was so void of anything, but he reeked of sin and blood. Lucifer wondered how things would play out with his lackey now this man was thrown back into the mix. He knew how much she cared for him, and it was amusing in a sense.

Crane could read in the man’s face that had grown bored of him. Good, no need for unneeded interest to be laid at him while others were as well. He had enough on his plate already with trying to fill the void in his memory. As well as find the people responsible. Though he was not going to sell his non existent soul for such a thing.

“Ah, Jonathan Crane. I was wondering when you’d stick your nose in my business. Having a good reunion with my underling are you?”

“If its any consolation, you approached me first.”

“None the less…” He said staring at the man. “I’m unsure wether to dispose of your existence..or keep you around further. You cause such delicious suffering with in her you know. Though nothing as quite as exquisite of her learning who’s heart I wrapped up nice and neat for her.”

“… Right” He looked at the strange man for a moment. “As many a time as I have received a death threat and those that have failed to comply I consider it idle ice breakers.” Did this man expect to intimidate him? It was a rather asinine Idea. “The heart was a cute touch, some stalker I take it?”

“Stalker? Hardly….” He grinned looking at him, “I wanted to see if I could truly hold control over her with a little…leverage. I assume it’s worked?” He said with a chuckle, “After all its much easier to have someone work on their own then having to control them yourself…” Tipping his head lightly to the side, “Then again…to you I do not exist. Perhaps you’re only speaking with your self. You act as a man who knows all, amusing how you know so little.”

“Ah, well It seems that I find my self in the presence of another lunatic that thinks himself a deity. Great just what Gotham needs. ” Then again he didn’t care about the well being of Gotham. “She has always been one of weak mind. No wonder she thinks you a false Idol.”

“A lunatic? Hardly. Tsk Tsk. You suffered so much trauma from your bible thumping granny that you have failed to see how easily you’ve fallen into my hands. Amusingly enough…despite her want to be a pure christian woman…she ended up on my turf any how. Don’t belive me? Perhaps I could arrange for a family gathering. I’m sure she’d be glad to see you again, Johnny.”

There was a twinkle of mischief in his eye.

“As for Bella, I believe I have you to thank for providing me with such a malleable mind.”

“So you do a little research, your damn good a red lighting I’ll give you that. But Don’t even think that I’ll fall for you false mysticism.” He spoke calmly. Though as deep as he buried his past, someone always brought it up. “Your threats are idle. Take them around people who fall for your tricks”

“Oh? Have I struck a nerve, Doctor? Still think it all to be tricks hmn?” he questioned. “Silly mortal. I could tell you who’s kept you captive the last few years…and what you are now. But that would spoil all the fun, now wouldn’t it. No no. I think I shall show you a ‘trick’ however…” He walked a smooth slow circle around Jonathan before chuckling and stepping back. Raising his hand lightly the Earth beneath him began to crack, asphalt bursting with orange light as a hand clawed its way through the rubble. Slowly but surely a figure emerged and before them stood the old woman her self. Lucifer merely watched in interest. “Strapping young boy he’s become, Hasn’t He?” He remarked as the old woman shuffled towards Jonathan in a disturbing way, in which no living thing should move. Then again…she wasn’t much living.

“You are sorely mistaken. ” He had not reacted a way that would give any inclination that he had been upset by it, granted he was, though he knew how not to show it. However, Crane’s eyes narrowed at the mention of the missing parts of his memories, and what he was or rather what he’d become. Jonathan turned his dual colored eyes to the cracking ground. His lip twitched up a bit in disgust. So this was just another magician, like Zatanna.

He didn’t move or flinch when the figure shambled towards him, nothing but disgust on his face.

His head cocked to the side. He must admit the man was pretty good at masking his emotions, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t sense them. He could practically taste all of man’s miseries. “Thats not hard. Bones and the like retain dna, embalming prolongs the decomposition process. Dna could have been, was probably removed from the grave.” Crane shook his head.  ”I said it was lunacy not that you were crazy”

“But twenty years in a new Orleans cemetery?” she said looking at him, “no…no. It couldn’t be.” She said her eyes wide staring at him. Bella rubbed her arms nervously. He had never seen her in such a state before. Bella made her way over to him, “i….I don…I don’t know what to do.” she whimpered lightly. She knew the devil had his hand in this…It was only a matter of time before he showed up.

“Its entirely plausible. ” He shrugged. He looked at her, “Just breathe, you’ve got yourself worked up over superstition”

She looked at him, “…You haven’t seen what I’ve seen…you wouldn’t understand.” She said angry he wouldn’t believe her. Then again she couldn’t blame him, it was crazy. Still she was not the only person on this earth who had encountered such things. Bella leaned against the metal table for support. Her body slouched forwards as she tried to swallow down her emotions. Her poor mother. She didn’t deserve this. She covered her face with her hands and bit her lip til it bled trying to withhold her tears. So many repressed memories were flooding back and old wounds were opening once more.

“So thats what this boils down to.” He spoke finally catching on to it all. It was about her mother. “Bella, Are you going to repress it or speak about it” Of course, old habits did not die hard, he was a psychologist before he was a psychopath.

Her body trembled as he gave her permission to let go. Her form slipped back against the table before she found herself once more on the floor. Knees drawing to her chin as she sobbed grossly against her hands. “I…I don’t want her to suffer any more…she’s the only one who’s ever protected me…stood up to me being abused by another.”

“If she is dead then she is not suffering any longer. Their are other that will protect you, that have. Humans aren’t around forever. None of us are.”

Bella was quite, it wasn’t so. She was still suffering, she just knew it. Shaking her head lightly she remained silent. No one wanted to protect her. If so..why did they always leave? Why was she always alone in the end? “that’s not so…if people wanted to protect me they wouldn’t abandon me.” Leave me to the wolves. This last month had been a literal hell for her mind. So many memories, and emotions. It was a steady downward spiral into another break down for her.

“Ah so your blaming This on people leaving you. ” He moved to sit on the steps that lead down to the lab. “Not everyone leaves of their own free will, its not something that can always be prevented.”
